Louis F. DiGiacomo, 89, of Conshohocken, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2010, after a short illness, at Meadowood Continuing Care Community in Worcester surrounded by his loving family.

He was the loving husband of the late Viola (Catanese) DiGiacomo who passed away in December 2008.

Louis worked 38 years as a chemical compounder with Quaker Chemical Company of Conshohocken, retiring in 1983. He continued to attend the annual Quaker Chemical Company Employees Reunion.

Born in Coatesville on Jan. 3, 1921, he was a son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Chille) DiGiacomo.

A longtime Conshohocken resident, Louis was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church of Conshohocken, the Andrew J. Lannutti Post 18 of Conshohocken, American War Veterans, VFW Post 1074 of Conshohocken and the Knights of Columbus Post 1603 of Conshohocken.

He was a 1940 graduate of the former Conshohocken High School and he was inducted into the Conshohocken Sports Hall of Fame, excelling in football, basketball, baseball and bowling.

Louis was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, serving with honor aboard the USS Knox. He participated in the Pacific Battle Campaigns of Leyte, Tinian, Iwo Jima, Sai Pan and Luzon. He was still active with and attended the WWII Naval reunions.

Louis enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by three daughters: JoAnne (and Bob) Lechowicz of Chalfont, Maria Greco of Conshohocken and Alberta (and Russell) Gaskill of Pennsburg; a brother Bernard DiGiacomo of Jeffersonville; five grandchildren: Jeanine, Denise, Louis, Erica and Sharon; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Louis was preceded in death by one brother, Albert DiGiacomo, who died in 1933.

A funeral Mass for Louis will be held on Wednesday, July 21 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew's RC Church, Third Ave. and Fayette St., Conshohocken. Pastor James Donlin will be officiating.

Friends may call on Wednesday morning from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the Moore & Snear Funeral Home, 300 Fayette St., Conshohocken.

Entombment will be at St. Matthew's Mausoleum, Conshohocken.
